Clarette (“Clarita”) Bradley, 98, passed away on October 1, 2018 at the home she shared with her daughter and son-in-law in San Marcos, California. She was born December 8, 1919, in Mayfield, Kansas, a daughter of George and Alice Skaggs Williams. The family moved to central Illinois in 1929, and she graduated from Lostant High School in 1938. Clarette worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company in Peoria for 15 years, where she was one of the first women chosen to move from the offices into the factory buildings to work as a shop secretary during World War II. She married Raymond C. Bradley in 1950 and moved to Normal, Illinois in 1959. After her husband’s death in 1968, she worked at Alice’s Health Foods in Bloomington and Bergner’s at the Eastland shopping center, retiring from Bergner’s in 1990. Clarette will be remembered for her baking skills, her kind heart, and her welcoming home. She is survived by her daughter Dawn Bradley, son-in-law Anthony Kopec, many friends and relatives, and a much-loved kitty. A celebration of life will be scheduled in Bloomington-Normal at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to any branch of the Humane Society.
