Theodora “Dorothy” Theresa Maria Krynen

August 3, 1956- November 19, 2019

It is with a heavy heart our family announces the passing of our beautiful sister, Dorothy Krynen on November 19, 2019. She passed peacefully in the night after a short battle with cancer.

Dorothy was the seventh of nine children born to Herman and Mary Krynen. As immigrants from the Netherlands, her parents raised her with strong Dutch roots and a solid faith, on a Dairy farm in the greater LA area. Early in her childhood, she was diagnosed with a developmental delay yet continued to be the joy of the family who taught her many skills, but most importantly instilled within her a deep love of cows. During elementary school age, she attended St. Vincent’s School in Santa Barbara where she demonstrated her love for learning and eagerness to experience life to the fullest. She was a dedicated athlete and competed in Special Olympics, earning many gold medals for track and swimming.  She taught herself to play guitar and loved to perform at family functions, parties, public events and fundraisers for her community.  Dorothy moved to Salem Christian Homes “Casa Puente” where she lived much of her adult life and gained the love of an additional family. Dorothy worked the last 40 years and was so proud to retire in early November, 2019.

Dorothy always loved being with her family, both Dutch and Salem. She had a competitive edge and loved to demonstrate her abilities in bowling and card games regularly. She shared her love of travel with her siblings who helped her add to her considerable cow collection, bringing her favorite cow, Princess, with her on every adventure.  

Dorothy was a deep thinker and quite insightful. She led an exemplary, authentic life and demonstrated a love for everyone she encountered bringing a smile to their face, stranger or friend.

She is preceded in death by her mother, father, brothers-in-law, and nephew. She is survived by her eight siblings: Margaret (Ed), Josie (Jim), Paul (Patty), Nellie (Norm), Meri (Oskar), Julie, Dennis (Moree), Jeff (Karen).  She was loved by 24 nieces and nephews, and 27 great nieces and nephews. She is survived by her Casa Puente family: Angelina, her house mother, and housemates Janet, Karen, Ramona, Bob, and Mark.

Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 1147 Discovery Street, San Marcos, California. Viewing in the church from 9:00-10:00 AM. Burial will be at San Marcos Cemetery following funeral. Lunch to follow burial.
