Born February 10, 1928 in Ischia Italy. Died March 7, 2019 peacefully in his home at 91 years of age. He lived in Oceanside California for 45 years. He was a member of St. Francis Church in Vista.
He was a Fisherman in Italy for 15 years before enlisting in the Italian Navy. He continued working as a Commercial Fisherman upon arriving in the United States for 45 years. First as a tuna purse seiner out of the Port of Los Angeles and later on his own 22’ boat named “Sea”. In 1974 the family moved to Oceanside where Giovanni fished from his new vessel, 36’ “Maria Madre”. You could always find Giovanni in the harbor or docks helping other fishermen with their nets, equipment repairs, or talking about the fishing stories from Italy and San Pedro.
He was very kind in giving away “extra fish” that he wasn’t able to sell to anyone; friends, acquaintance, people of need, neighbors. He was known as "The Little Italian Fisherman” with a kind heart.
