Harry E. Moore, Jr., 74, passed away suddenly at his home on May 8th in Lompoc, CA.
Harry was born in Latrobe, PA to Harry E. Moore, Sr. and Frances (Smoker) Moore on July 18th, 1943. He attended Derry Area High School and then went on to graduate from Penn State University in 1965 with a degree in electrical engineering. After graduation, he was then commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Air Force and did a tour in Vietnam. He left active duty in 1969, but continued to serve in the Air Force reserves for many years before retiring as a colonel. He worked for 52 years as an electrical engineer in the information technology industry primarily in service of government contracts that benefitted servicemen.
On July 6, 1968, Harry married Marjorie McGrath in Sacramento, CA. They had four children together and were planning to celebrate their 50th anniversary this summer.
Harry, also known as "Sonny" by his family and friends, was the rock of the Moore family. His work ethic and integrity justified the respect he received from coworkers and family. He was the one who was always there to help and comfort any family or friends who were in need. Sonny's compassion and devotion to his family never waivered over the years or distance from home. His willingness to help others outside his family was also evident in his involvement with community organizations like the Lion's Club and the Knights of Columbus. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Besides his parents, Harry is preceded in death by his brother, Barry F.Moore, Sr. Harry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marjorie and their four children; Jacqueline Wyrwitzke and daughter Maxine; Harry E. Moore III; Teresa McCarthy (Mike) and their two children Molly and John; and Thomas Moore (Heather) and daughter, Hialeah. Harry is also survived by two sisters, Dianne Carota (Nick) of Latrobe, PA, and Janice Crowell of Greensburg, PA and a brother Larry Moore (Jodi) of Boalsburg, PA.
Mass and burial services will be held at 1:30 on Wednesday, May 16th at Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside, CA.
In lieu of gifts or flowers, memorials may be given in his name to a charity of your choice.
