John Hook Obituary

John Glenn Hook (affectionately known as Jack) was born on April 28th, 1933 in Lake Wilson, MN to Harold & Minnie Hook. Jack’s dad owned a restaurant called Hook’s Cafe and his mom was a teacher. Jack enjoyed playing high school sports and was an avid sports enthusiast throughout his life.

Following high school he attended and received his Bachelor’s degree at the Mankato State Teacher’s College before being drafted in the US Army where he was stationed in Germany. After coming back home he used his GI Bill to go to the University of North Dakota where he received his Master’s Degree in Elementary Education and Administration.

While attending college Jack was reunited at a dance with Nancy Lee Hourscht of Ruthton, MN. Following their wedding August 20, 1960 the couple relocated to Oceanside, CA where they welcomed their first child, Kimberly Ann. A year later they purchased their first and only home in Carlsbad, CA before welcoming their son, John Kyle.

Jack and Nancy worked hard and enjoyed traveling the United States and taking cruises and vacation in places like the Caribbean, the Panama Canal, Alaska, Mexico, Japan and Hawaii. He worked most of his teaching career at Beaumont Elementary in Vista, CA and retired after 36 years of teaching.

Jack was an active member of the Vista Teacher’s Association, the National Educator’s Association, AARP, VFW the American Legion, the American Heart Association and The American Cancer Association. He was very passionate about animals and donated to many of their causes such as the San Diego Humane  Society, ASPCA, and Save the Manatees among others. He was always a very generous, giving man that loved Jeopardy and warm weather.

Jack’s faith started at a young age as an alter boy in the Catholic Church and he and Nancy began attending The Station Church in 2012. In recent years Jack’s faith grew and he was frequently praying and praising God for the amazing life he had enjoyed.

Jack is lovingly remembered by his wife Nancy Lee Hook; daughter Kimberly Ann Allison; son John Kyle Hook (Lori); granddaughter Amber Lee Hook; great grandchildren Kaylin Nancy Egan and Preston Richard Egan; great-great grandsons Luke James Egan and Jack Preston Egan.
