Johnny Yee Obituary

Johnny Yee, aged 53, passed away at 2:48 am on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 in Escondido, CA after suffering from a massive stroke.

Johnny was born August 28, 1965 in Hong Kong.  He moved to Lakewood, CA with his parents and two younger brothers in 1970.

Johnny was the first in his family to graduate high school in 1983 from David Starr Jordan High School in Long Beach, CA.  He continued his education, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities from California State University, Long Beach in 1988 and a Masters of International Business at the United States International University in 1990.

Johnny was an extremely loving father and so proud of his children, Madison, who is obtaining her PhD in Pediatric Neuropsychology at the University of Kentucky and J.J., who is pursuing a career as a firefighter.  They were his pride and joy and he loved being called J and Mei’s “Big Daddy”.

Johnny was an extremely huge sports fan.  His favorites teams were all the Los Angeles teams; Lakers, Dodgers, and Rams.  He was also a dedicated fan of UCLA, UK, and any team his children were on.  He enjoyed coaching youth sports and followed the careers of the kids he coached into their high school, collegiate and even pro careers.  Johnny was also very proud of his heritage and was definitely all about the Asian Pride or Asian Love, as he would call it.  He enjoyed going on hikes with friends and loved listening to old school R&B; some of his favorites were New Edition, Luther Vandross, and Tevin Campbell.

Johnny is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Madison (Mei) and son, Jonathan (J.J); his mother, Cheuk Kiu; father, Nung Dep; younger brothers, Bill, Bob, and David; younger sister, Bonnie; sister-in-law, Ashlee; nephew, Tristan; aunts, uncles, cousins, and many close friends. He is preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Stanley and Kam Hang Yee; maternal grandparents, Leung Wai Sang and Yun Bick Kay.
