Lloyd Silas Peak

Lloyd Silas Peak, 91, formerly of Vista, California passed away on September 18, 2018 at Presbyterian Manor in Fulton, Missouri.  Lloyd was born on November 28, 1926 in Mulvane, Kansas to the late Fred and Susie Courtney Peak.  He was married on April 12, 1957 to Sara Ann Schrooten and she preceded him in death in 2003.  He served in the United States Maritime Service, and later in the US Army in both the United States and Korea during the Korean War.  A graduate of California State University, Long Beach and Stanford University, he taught chemistry for 26 years at MiraCosta College in Oceanside, California.

He was a member of the Escondido First Church of the Nazarene, where he is best remembered for his service as an usher.

Lloyd loved telling jokes.  He had more than 2 dozen jokebooks in his library, in addition to many pages of jokes he collected from magazines and the internet.  He also loved animals and was a longtime member of the San Diego Zoological Society.  He was especially fond of Churchill the Cat, the official house cat of Churchill Terrace in Fulton where he lived for 7 months.

He is survived by 2 sons, Rev. Clayton Peak and wife, Rev. Rebecca Dunger Peak of Fulton; and Dr. S. Andrew Peak of Vista, California.  Lloyd was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Wayne & Duane Peak, and 2 sisters, Maxine Meineke, and Mary Mildred Peak.

Visitation will begin at 10 am, followed by funeral services at Noon on Friday October 19, 2018 at Allen Brothers Mortuary in Vista, California. Burial with military rites will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside, California. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Bible Society.
