Mary E. Rasmussen

Mary Elizabeth HOPKINS Rasmussen:   

     Mary Elizabeth Rasmussen, born Mary Elizabeth Hopkins on March 21st, 1957, the eldest daughter of Andrew Hopkins Jr. and Talitha Colwell Hopkins of Cardiff, CA, went home to be with the Lord on November 27, 2019. Andrew was an employee of Hughes Aircraft in Carlsbad for 28 years.  Talitha was the music teacher from the Cardiff and Ada Harris Elementary Schools for over 30 years.  Mary's parents both passed away in 2006. 

     Mary was born in San Diego and lived all her life in North San Diego County.  She graduated from San Dieguito High School in 1974, attended the Oceanside College of Beauty to become a licensed cosmetologist, and worked many years as a manicurist.  Later, she combined her skills in cutting hair with her love of animals and enjoyed a career grooming animals at Petco.

     Mary loved music and enjoyed playing piano, singing and listening to all kinds of music.  She adored art and spent many years creating beauty through sewing, drawing, stained glass work and other kinds of crafts. Mary also loved to read and especially enjoyed non-fiction, do-it-yourself and self-help kinds of books.  Her bookshelves are filled with books on history, art, geography/world cultures and Christianity.

     Mary married Brian Carson Rasmussen from Rancho Santa Fe on June 3rd, 1989.  They were two weeks from their 30th wedding anniversary when Brian passed away (5/30/19).  Brian and Mary did not have any human children, but they enjoyed their cocker spaniel "children" throughout the years.

     Mary will be laid to rest with Brian at All Saints Cemetery in Oceanside, CA.  She is survived by her mother-in-law, Rosemary Rasmussen of Kamuela, HI, and sister Martha Phillips, brother-in-law Robert Phillips and nieces Celia and Samantha Phillips of Palmyra, PA.

     A memorial service will be held for Mary on Friday, December 27th, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Emmanuel Faith Community Church chapel (downstairs), 639 E. 17th Ave., Escondido, CA 92025.
