Theresa Louise Jacobs

Our loving Theresa passed away peacefully at the age of 99 in Escondido, California on October 21st. We will sorely miss her, but those whose lives she touched will always remember her.

Theresa was born to Catherine and Carmelo DiNatale in Boston.  She grew up in Boston with her sister, Rose (Bebe).  Catherine and Carmelo divorced early and Theresa and Rose grew up without a father in Dorchester, MA near other family members.  Theresa met Jack (Morrill Osgood) Jacobs, her future husband, at a Paul Jones dance in 1940.  Jack was a Navy Lieutenant JG at the time and when the war ended, he and Theresa married in 1948 in Cambridge, MA.  Theresa raised her 2 children, Bill and Andrea, in Arlington and lived happily with Jack.  She worked for Filenes, as a Head Department Manager in Belmont, MA and retired in 1983, after 25 years as their longest executive employee.

Theresa and Jack bought their retirement home in Lexington in 1973.  Jack passed away in 1974 and Theresa stayed in Lexington until 1995, when she moved to California to be closer to her family, especially her 3-year-old grandson, Michael.  Theresa’s first home in CA was in Scotts Valley in a senior community called Montevalle.  She loved spending time with her friends and decorating the Montevalle Community Clubhouse for special events. She helped the family by taking Michael to school and home when needed.  On those days, she would cook dinner for the family and spend time with them. Theresa’s grandson loved having Grandma nearby for their special moments.  She later moved to Southern California to The Colony, an active senior community in Murrieta and at age 96 to Cypress Court, assisted living in Escondido. Theresa loved reading books, walking, decorating and shopping, well into her late 90’s.

Theresa is survived by her son – Bill; daughter-in-law – Lydia; and grandson – Michael Jacobs of Pauma Valley, CA.  Theresa was preceded in death by her daughter Andrea Jacobs in 2008 and her sister Rose in 1996.

Theresa will be buried in the family plot at Oak Grove Cemetery in Gloucester, MA, next to her husband, Jack and daughter, Andrea.
