Alberto David Obituary

Alberto Valeza David, known as Bert, Love, Papa, Lolo Daddy, Papa Lulu, Ka Yuri, Ambe, and Boboy to friends, comrades, and family, passed away at the age of 71 on October 26, 2024 in Oceanside, California.

Born on June 28, 1953 in Manila, Philippines, he spent his young adult years fighting against the military dictatorship in the Philippines. For his beliefs, he was put in prison, where he eased the time by playing table tennis and chess with fellow political prisoners. He retires with the title of undefeated chess champion in the family, despite his sons-in-law’s best efforts.

In his 50s, he moved to the United States and continued organizing in both his new and old communities until his death.

In addition to his chess and table tennis prowess, he was known for his love of music. He could be found playing any piano he could find, including the one at City of Hope, where he was being treated for cancer. Among the many things that his loved ones will miss about him are his beautiful singing voice, his laugh bouncing in its mischief, his ability to befriend anyone, and his boundless optimism.

He is survived by his wife Haydee, his children Gabriela and Clayton, Freedom and Benjamin, Chaim and Trixia, Soleil and Ryan, his grandchildren Akiva, Arya, Eliana, and Elliot, and his siblings Marian, Steve, and Dennis. He is predeceased by his parents Primitiva and Alberto Sr., and his second mother Inocencia.

Viewing and memorial services are scheduled for Alberto on November 11 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Allen Brothers Mortuary at 1315 S Santa Fe Ave., Vista, California 92083.
