She went to college with the help of her sister and brother-in-law, Rizalina and Guillermo Buss. While she was in school, she joined numerous associations and competitions. She played softball and joined academic competitions so she could save earned monetary awards to put towards her tuition fees for her education. She would go on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education. She taught Science and Mathematics in elementary education for over 30 years. During her early teaching profession, she met the love of her life, Sostenes Aquino Laguitan, who she married on March 9, 1968. They were blessed with five children: Lorna, Loreto (deceased), Allan, Liberty and Maria Fe. Her husband preceded her in death on September 4, 1986, and son, Loreto, on June 20, 1990.
She migrated to the United States to follow her daughter and son-in-law, Lorna and Brian Miller in 1994. Upon arrival to California, she initially stayed with her sister, Rizalina, and her families in Hayward, California while Lorna and Brian were transitioning to move to California. She eventually joined Lorna and Brian in San Diego whom she had been living with until her passing.
Nanay (mother in English) lived a simple but full life. She resided predominantly in San Diego. She also spent time with Liberty and husband Ray Feenstra, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where she also enjoyed traveling to Liberal, Kansas, where daughter Maria Fe worked as a Director of Adult Education. She enjoyed traveling and seeing different places. One of the best trips she had was when she visited her daughter, Liberty, in England with her sister, Rizalina, and nieces. She enjoyed going to senior citizens’ gatherings with her sister-in-law, Flora Laguitan Fune. She loved to dance. She was very passionate playing scrabble and savvy with unfamiliar words. She enjoyed taking her grandkids to school and being in the classrooms with them, watching them play sports and perform in music recitals. She spent her 83rd birthday on a recent trip to the Philippines where she stayed with her son, Allan and his family for seven weeks. She always helped others rather than being helped herself. She was a very kind, generous, loving, positive and faithful person. She never complained or expressed any pain, right up to her last breath. She deeply believed in and loved God, leaving all to HIS will.
She is survived by her children; Lorna (Brian), Allan, Liberty (Ray) and Dr. Maria Fe. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: John Paul, Joseph Patrick, Mark Christopher, Mark Aldjhon, Lorna Mae, Kristin Mae, Mark Kristoff, and Brian Raymond.
May her beautiful, simple, and kind soul rest in peace.
