Barbara was the beloved matriarch of our family. She was a living example that love, family, and kindness to others are the most important part of living a happy and successful life. Barbara showed her love to everyone by her words and actions. Barbara was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on June 29, 1936 to Richard and Marie Prout. She grew up in a loving home with her parents and younger sister, Joyce, attending Oshkosh High School, Ripon College and Oshkosh State. Barbara married Robert Winet in 1957 and had two sons, Richard and Randall. She focused her love and energy on her family, friends and faith. Barbara became a real estate broker and sold homes for multiple developers throughout San Diego County. Her outgoing and pleasant personality provided her success in the real estate business, an interest that she acquired from her father Richard. Since family was always the most important part of life for Barbara, she enjoyed going back to Wisconsin on vacations to visit her sister, niece and nephews. She also enjoyed traveling to Hawaii with her husband, Ed, sons, and their families.
Barbara had a deep passion and love for her two grandsons and three granddaughters. She read and talked with her grandson Ryan, watched grandson Matt play baseball games and
would love to have overnight dress up parties with her precious granddaughters (Jessica, Allison and Rachel). She took a great interest in all of her grandchildrens’ lives and was deeply loved by all of them. Barbara referred to her sons Rick and Randy as “my boys” throughout her life and always encouraged them with love and praise. Barbara knew Randy’s wife Kerry from the age of 16 and felt like she was the daughter she never had. In 1986, Barbara married Ed Dixon. They shared a wonderful life together and Ed was always caring and loving to Barbara at all times, holding her hand at the time that she passed away. Barbara made Ed’s children (Terry, Jeff, Brian, Michelle and Jennifer) her own and was a second mother to them. Barbara joins her parents as well as her twin brother, Richard Lawrence Prout (who died at birth) and a wonderful family in heaven. She had a remarkable, loving impact on everyone
who met her and will be dearly missed. If you ask anyone in Barbara’s family, they will tell you that she was the most wonderful wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend you would ever meet. May we all share the same love and kindness that Barbara did with our family and friends.
