Carol Van Slyke Obituary

Born March 28th 1934 in New Berlin, Illinois to Walter and Lulu Wenneborg, she moved to Oceanside with her mother and grandma at age 12. Carol attended Oceanside-Carlsbad Union  High School class of  1952.  Graduated and went right to work for Pacific bell where she worked many positions, but retired after 35 years as a manager. She was very active in the Telephone pioneers De Anza Chapter.

Carol married the love of her life, Bill Van Slyke in 1971, who also worked for Pac Bell and involved in Telephone pioneers.

She was a very proud member of Daughters of the Nile. Carol served as past queen and in other capacities and committees, such as Shriner’s Hospital for children & memorial services for fallen members.

For decades, Carol also loved participating with high school classmates of 1951, for what she called, “ Lunch Bunch.” They would meet once a month for lunch and share in each other’s lives.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran for over 30 years, where she and Bill attended until she couldn’t anymore. After Bill passed away in 2008, she remained a member until she was unable to do so.

She lived her last year at ActivCare at Bressi Ranch where she was the BINGO champion.

Most important to Carol was family, She was very proud of her kids, grandchildren, & great- grandchildren. Would tell stories of adventures with Bill & the kids, and was excited about the new babies that came as well.

Carol is survived by her granddaughter Jessica, son Kevin(April), stepdaughter Jennifer(Ron), and stepson Stephen(Lynette), 7 grandchildren, & 7 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her Husband Bill & stepson Steven(2022)

Her legacy lives on through her family and the impact she made in various aspects of her life and countless friends.
