Carolyn Alice McCarty

Carolyn Alice (Nay) Age 82 of San Marcos, California, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2021. She was born May 1, 1939 in Fairmount, West Virginia, the son of the late Edward Earl and Virginia (Webb) Nay. Carolyn graduated from Baker High School in 1957, went on to receive her bachelor's degree in education from Wright State University.  Early in her career, Carolyn worked for Fairborn City Schools in Fairborn, Ohio serving the most needy students with disabilities.  Carolyn earned teaching credentials in Single Subject, Multiple Subjects and Lifetime credentials in Special Education, and her long career supported her passion and advocacy for helping students succeed.  A strong proponent for teachers, Carolyn also served as a Negotiator for the Apple Valley Unified Teachers Association for many years.

In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, John “Jack” McCarty; a son Steven Russell, brother James “Jim” Nay; nieces Melissa Campbell and Molly McCarty and brother-in-laws, William “Bill” McCarty and James “Jim” McCarty.  Carolyn is survived by a daughter, Anne Catherine McCarty; a son, Jack Edward and his wife Seng McCarty; grandchildren, Melissa McCarty, Colin McCarty, Matthew McCarty, Zachary McCarty; Morgan McCarty; a great-grandson, Isaiah McCarty; sister, Martha Campbell of Greece; sister-in-laws, Barbara McCarty of Ohio, Glendine McCarty of Texas; nieces, Constance (Campbell) Ordeman, Elizabeth (Campbell) Gavala, Andrea Nay, Sue (Will) McCarty Van Curan and Robin McCarty Light; nephews, James (Theresa) McCarty and John McCarty.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 10:00 A.M at Mission Hills Church, 400 Mission Hills Ct, San Marcos, CA 92069.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
