Cathleen M Smith

Cathleen Marie Smith passed away on August 17, 2021 after a ferocious battle with cancer.  She was 62 years old. She was the beloved wife of Paul Smith, dear mother of Shane Cartwright (Maritza Cartwright) and proud grandmother to Aaliyah Marie, Tristen, Alexia, Jonathan and Angel Cartwright.  Cathleen’s extraordinary positivity and resilience throughout her long, courageous fight was possible due to her unwavering faith in her Savior Jesus Christ, as well as the love and support of her cherished husband.   

Cathleen attended Louisiana State University, and obtained her Bachelor’s Degree as part of the First Graduating Class of Cal State San Marcos, graduating Magna Cum Lade.  She then sat and passed her CPA Exam in 1993. 

Cathleen had a strong passion and distinct talent for accounting.  Her career included a CFO title for a large commercial developer and lead accountant for a well-known San Diego magazine.  She finished her career as the CFO for Sharratt Builders. 

She also had a true love for horses.  Cathleen competed on the hunter/jumper circuit for many years, and ran a show barn and sport horse breeding operation on her ranch in San Marcos.  She loved to travel to the East coast and the Midwest to visit family and friends, and was an avid Packers fan and owner. 

A Memorial Service will be held at 1pm on September 2, 2021 at Allen Brothers Mortuary in San Marcos, immediately followed by a gathering at Cocina del Charro in San Marcos.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Cancer Society.
