Charles Porter Obituary

Charles Perry Porter (Chuck) was born on August 30, 1933 in Denver, Colorado to William and May Porter. As a boy, he heard the good news of Jesus Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection for the salvation of all who believe, and at the age of 10 he accepted God’s gift of salvation as his own and was born again into God’s family. At the age of 12 his family moved to Victor, Colorado, where he thrived with his circle of friends, playing sports, playing clarinet in the band, and graduating valedictorian of his class. The call of God brought him to BIOLA in 1954 to prepare to serve the Lord on the mission field. In June of 1957 Chuck graduated from BIOLA and married the love of his life, Caroline (Carrie) Dueck. That September they joined the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism (ABWE), and labored together mostly in Peru to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to the people there. For the next 44 years, Chuck used his spiritual gifts to share the gospel, start churches, strengthen believers, write courses to train Christian leaders, and serve the Lord in whatever way presented itself. Chuck received his Master’s degree from Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary in 1979. He became a founding member of the board of what is now Horizon Education Network in 1997, a position he held until 2023. After retiring from active missionary service, Chuck continued to write TEE training courses, participate in missions trips, and serve as assistant pastor and then pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in Oceanside, California until his death. All who knew him loved him, and those who knew him well, loved him even more. Chuck is preceded in death by his wife Caroline Porter, his parents William and May Porter, his sisters Ethel Paulina Soriano and Rose Mary Hall, his stillborn son Nathan Thomas Porter, and his daughter Lynn Porter. He was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by those who survive him: His brother Arthur Porter, his daughter Pam (Tim) Hewitt, his granddaughters Melody (Troy) Rankin, Gloria (James) Farley, and Praise (Ian) Moyer, and his great-granddaughters Kaylee, Aliya, and Jordyn Rankin, Esther Farley, and April Moyer. Chuck never wasted an opportunity to invite others into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ and there will be untold numbers of people enjoying Heaven because of him. That is his eternal legacy.
