David Gonzalez was a brother, a son, a veteran, and a friend. David, a lifelong resident of Southern California, died unexpectedly on July 4, 2022 at the age of 33 in Roseburg, Oregon while on vacation with his family.
David is survived by his parents George and Sherrel Gonzalez; his brothers Frank Magdaleno, Noah Gonzalez and Daniel Gonzalez: His sister in Law Catie Magdaleno, along with his two nephews Max and Leo and grandparents George and Georgia Reedy.
David was born on January 10, 1989 in Fountain Valley, California. Starting David’s Sophomore year of high school, he was accepted at the Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad, CA. David was a natural leader, and became the youngest Sergeant Major at the Academy. Upon graduating from high school David attended Cal State Fullerton before enrolling in the Army. David went on to serve 18 months in Iraq, as well as one year at Guantanamo Bay. David continued attending Cal State Fullerton in between his deployments.
David was everyone’s favorite person. He was a loyal and devoted family member and friend, who would do anything to protect those he loved. David traveled the world, was always the smartest person when discussing current or political events, and never shied away from doing what was right or standing up for himself and those he loved. David will be missed more than words can describe. His family, friends and all who knew David know that there was nobody like him, and he will forever have imprinted a piece of him on all of us to have in our hearts.
A celebration of David’s life will take place on August 4th at the Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad, CA, followed by a military burial and reception.
Parking is available anywhere on the street or anything labeled Army Navy Academy. The Army Navy Academy Hockey parking lot located at the corner of Mountain View Drive and Pacific Ave. is also available for parking. When walking to chapel do not walk through the school. Walk down Pacific Ave or Cypress towards the beach and the Chapel is located off of Ocean St and Cypress.
