Gene Taylor Obituary

Gene Taylor, age 96, of San Marcos, CA left us in the early morning hours of 12/19/2024 to join her beloved Joe in heaven.

Gene was born in Elton, MD on October 9, 1928 to Ruth and Charles Deibert. She was one of 7 children, five boys and two girls.  Gene was an outgoing child who was doted on by her family and was very close to her siblings, especially her older sister, Ann.  She graduated from Elton High School in1945, and went on to earn her RN degree from the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Wilmington, Delaware. She met Joe, the love of her life, when they were both working at Wilmington

VA Hospital in Delaware. They were married on March 5 of 1955 in Gene’s neighborhood church and were happily married for almost 68 years.  They settled down in Wilmington Delaware until Joe went into the Air Force. Gene was a proud military wife who went with Joe to New York, Georgia, Germany and Colorado. She was a full-time homemaker and mom extraordinaire to her four children, Kim, Karen, Kyle and Joe Jr. When Joe retired from the Air Force in 1981 they bought a house and settled in Colorado Springs. In 2016, she and Joe moved to San Marcos, CA to be closer to their daughter and son. After Joe passed away in 2023, Gene moved into Twin Oaks Garden Board and Care in San Marcos where she quietly passed away in her sleep on December 19.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Gene was a social butterfly who loved talking and visiting with everyone! She was amazing at keeping in contact with family and friends and loved getting together for conversation and fun whenever possible. One of her favorite things to do was dance and she would get Joe to twirl her around the floor whenever she had the chance. Gene was always active in her church and enjoyed attending church activities and her Bible study. She loved helping others and was a genuine friend and true caregiver at heart. She was loved by all who know her and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Gene is survived by her children Kim Land, Karen Staton and her husband James, Kyle Postlethwaite and her husband Brad, and Joseph Taylor, Jr. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Shane Jones, Taylor Postlethwaite (Christen), Breanna Freeman, Sean Postlethwaite, Tessa Carnovale (Nick), and Naomi Staton. Also, two great granddaughters, Kylin and Keziah Postlethwaite and her great grandson Norman Carnovale, as well as her brother Frank Deibert and sister-in-law Betty Ann, nieces and nephews, extended family and many dear friends.

A service at MCAS Miramar will take place on March 5, 2025 (Gene and Joe’s 70th Wedding Anniversary). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either The Lake Church in San Marcos at www.lakechurch.org/give or Feeding San Diego at give.feedingsandiego.org.
