Jeanne Bomberg Obituary

Jeanne grew up in Chicago, Illinois. She was the oldest of 3 children, and would talk fondly about summers spent in Ohio with friends of the family who had no children of their own, and doted on her. She was also very close to her Aunt Edith, both as a child and an adult.

Jeanne attended Dennison University for 2 years, where she pledged Delta Gamma Sorority, and she remained active in Panhellenic throughout her life.

Jeanne married when she was 20 years old, and she and Al raised 3 daughters. Family was important to Mom, and she was instrumental in gathering family and friends for holidays, birthdays, and other important events, a quality which she passed on to the next generation. She was devoted to her children and very close to her grandchildren, who remember being treated as a friend and confidant, not just a child.

Jeanne had a successful career in residential real estate in the 70’s, at a time when it wasn’t as common for a woman to be in that profession. She was physically active, and loved to walk, play tennis, and golfed until she was 90. She also belonged to two bridge groups, and continued those friendships after she stopped playing. Jeanne enjoyed traveling--first with her Mother and siblings; and later, she and Al traveled throughout the United States and Europe, frequently accompanied by family or friends. She had a wide circle of friends and acquaintances, and also used her social strengths in service to the community--helping friends in need, and delivering Meals on Wheels.

Jeanne was determined, and disciplined in her habits--whether it was water aerobics, exercises after knee surgeries, running a household, or keeping meticulous books. She loved to read the newspaper, and kept herself informed about what was going on in the world. She regularly cut out articles she thought might be of interest to us, and sent them to various members of the family.

Jeanne was independent, and her own person. She loved life, and wanted to be in her own home with the people and things that were important to her. Our Mom Jeanne passed 2 weeks after her husband Al died.
