John P. Anunson, 92, of San Marcos, California died May 25, 2022, at UCSD Medical Center, San Diego. He was born January 22, 1930 in San Bernardino, CA to Ferdinand John Waldow and Mary (Smith) Waldow. John’s birth name was John Ferdinand Waldow. His parents were divorced shortly after his birth and his mother married Harold Anunson in 1933. Harold eventually adopted John, changing his name to John Patrick Anunson.
John attended El Monte High School until he joined the Air Force in 1947, serving 3 years. John was a 50-year member of Plumbers & Pipefitters Union Local 364. He loved the industry, especially putting in medical gas for hospitals. John was a Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts for 30 years. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed working with his scouts.
John was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served often in many church organizations and callings. He also volunteered at the San Diego Temple in La Jolla. John touched many people’s lives with his service, kindness and good sense of humor. He also loved reading, working on wood projects, and especially gardening.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Adrienne “Kit” Anunson, and great-grandson Derick Bedwell. He is survived by his wife Barbara Anunson, 8 daughters and 2 sons, 24 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2255 Felicita Road, Escondido, CA 92029. John will be interred June 23 at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego at 1:00PM.
