John Michael Connors passed away on June 1, 2024, in San Marcos, California. Born on September 6, 1948, to James and Dorothy Connors, John grew up in Manchester, New Hampshire. He lived most of his adult life in Port Hueneme and Camarillo, California and moved to San Marcos after retirement.
John (nicknamed “Bull” in high school) was a graduate of Manchester Memorial High School, class of 1966, where he played on the 1965 undefeated New Hampshire state champion football team and saved the season by blocking a punt and running it in for a touchdown. Shortly after graduation, he moved to California where he worked in warehouses for Nabisco, Simon Levi Company, and the Ventura Unified School District. He was a proud Teamster member and served as president for the Ventura School District classified employee union for several years. He was then promoted to manage the warehouse for the remainder of his 20 years with the district.
In 1969, John married his beloved wife, Nancy. Together, they raised their only child, daughter Shannon. John was a cherished neighbor and friend, who always greeted others with a smile and a helping hand. He and Nancy enjoyed many travel and cruising adventures. He especially loved the Grand Canyon which he visited many times, once hiking down the canyon and white water rafting out as a 50th birthday challenge for himself. His BBQ skills were legendary and were always enjoyed by family and friends. John loved watching sports, especially when played by his two grandsons as they grew up.
John’s favorite hobby was gardening. He shared the fruits and vegetables of his labor with many. John took great pride and happiness in teaching gardening to school children in Ventura and San Marcos through their educational school district programs. He was an avid cribbage player, playing almost daily with his wife and he loved teaching the game to others.
John was predeceased by his parents and his brothers, James and Thomas and sister, Carol. His memory will be forever held in the hearts of his surviving family: his wife Nancy; his daughter, Shannon and son-in-law, Steve; his two grandchildren, Jack and Cole; his brothers, Timothy, Neil, Gerald and sister, Mary; and many nieces and nephews.
The immediate family will hold a private service to celebrate John’s life.
In lieu of flowers, the Connors family kindly requests donations be made to a community garden near you in John’s honor, to promote the hobby he so loved.
