John Sable Obituary

John Paul Sable, of Vista, CA, and formerly of Minneapolis, MN, and Florissant, MO, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, May 3, 2022.  Preceded in death by father and mother, Floyd H. Sable and Regina R. Sable; brothers Glenn Marcus Sable and Robert Kenneth Sable; and sister Joanne Sable Brady.

Survived by beloved wife, Valerie Klein Sable, Vista, CA; son, John P. Sable, Jr., Friday Harbor, WA; daughter, Amy Sable Petruska, Hopkins, MN; daughter and husband, Catherine Sable Anastasiou and Alexander C. Anastasiou, Escondido, CA; son and wife, Richard C. Sable and Melissa A. Sable, Fallbrook, CA; and daughter and husband, Stephanie Sable Martinez and Andrew C. Martinez, Center Point, TX; five grandchildren, Audrey and Eric Sable, Jack Petruska, and Barrett and Coralynn Martinez; sister and husband, Paula J. Reese and Gerald T. Reese, Hesperia, CA; brother Frederick H. Sable, Webster, MN; brother Robert’s wife, Joan C. Sable, New Hope, MN; and wife’s sister and husband, Melanie K. Juds and Wayne C. Juds, Vadnais Heights, MN; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

John was a graduate of Eden Prairie High School, Eden Prairie, MN.  After graduation, he enlisted as a sailor in the U.S. Navy, stationed first in Hawaii, and then aboard an aircraft carrier in the South China Sea during the war in Vietnam as a member of Air Antisubmarine Squadron 25.  He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal with one bronze star.  Upon his honorable discharge in San Diego, John worked for a short time at Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena before returning to his native Minnesota.  At the time, many fledgling computer companies were just starting up, selling computer systems to corporations for use in their business operations.  John got in on the ground floor with a few of these companies, beginning in Minnesota, then for seven years in St. Louis, MO, and finally being transferred to San Diego in 1985.  After several years, he started his own business from home as a computer reseller, which he did until his retirement.

John loved being active.  In Minnesota, free-time activities included racquetball, tennis, both snow-skiing and water-skiing and sailing small sailboats on some of Minnesota’s many lakes.  In California, he “graduated” to larger sailboats and enjoyed sailing out of San Diego harbor, sometimes even on overnight trips, anchoring off the Coronado Islands.

Although not a schooled musician, John enjoyed music, and taught himself how to play the guitar.  He also sang in church choirs in both Missouri and California, and played in a handbell choir in Missouri.

John was gregarious and enjoyed striking up a conversation with people wherever he went.  He was dearly loved, and will be greatly missed by friends and family.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Allen Brothers Mortuary, Vista Chapel, 1315 S. Santa Fe Avenue, Vista, CA, with visitation one hour prior to service.
