Sometimes our heroes hide in plain sight among us. They provide a steady hand at the helm, lend an encouraging word or sympathetic ear and give us strength during times of need. Humble, quietly unassuming yet no less heroic they leave lasting impacts. Joseph Emmet Martin passed peacefully after a lengthy illness and was one of those few. Born in Chicago his family moved to Pasadena, California as a boy. By high school his interests included charming co-ed classmates, playing saxophone, singing in the chorus, gymnastics and a job at the corner service station to help support his single mother. Blessed with patience and a gifted mechanical mind that part-time income grew into a life long passion for auto repair eventually leading to owning and operating the San Marcos Tuneup and Brake Specialists local business in San Marcos, CA for over 40 years. Hobbies throughout the decades included golfing, water skiing, radio controlled aircraft, rose and lotus gardening, restoring classic cars, dancing and so many more - taking a backseat to enduring relationships with customers, golf buddies, neighbors and family. He leaves behind his son Robert, daughter Jo, daughter-in-law, Pammie, son-in-law, Jake, grandchildren McKenna, Levi, Wyatt and Tyler, countless friends and partner of many years, Susan. A hero’s effect lingers long in those that listen. Our hearts ache but we take comfort in knowing that Joe is at his wife’s Annie’s side. May their backyard viewpoint face west awash in the warmth and beauty of the next Pacific sunset.
