Joseph A. Taylor, age 95, of San Marcos, California died on Saturday February 11, 2023, at home under hospice care. He spent many hours his last two days with his wife, four children, sons-in-law, and granddaughter.
Joe was born in Irvington, New Jersey on December 18, 1927, to Daisy and Harry Taylor. He graduated from East Orange High School in New Jersey, East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania and went on to get his Masters Degree in Physical Therapy at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. Joe began his military career in the United States Marine Corps in 1946 and later joined the U.S. Army Reserves upon completion of his physical therapy studies. In 1964, he decided to go on active duty again and joined the United States Air Force as the Chief Physical Therapist of the various base hospitals he was assigned. He retired in 1981 from the United States Air Force Academy Hospital and settled in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 2016, he and his wife moved to San Marcos to be closer to his daughter and son.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend, Joe enjoyed history, sports, music, old movies, comedies, licorice and a nice bowl of soup. He was a smooth dancer and loved to dance with Gene any chance he got. He was active in his church in Colorado and in California. Joe had a great sense of humor and a sarcastic wit and loved going out for dinner and fun whenever possible. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Joe is survived by his wife of 67.9 years, Gene Taylor, his children Kim Land, Karen Staton and her husband James, Kyle Postlethwaite and her husband Brad, and Joseph Taylor, Jr. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Shane Jones, Taylor Postlethwaite (Christen), Breanna Freeman, Sean Postlethwaite, Tessa Carnovale (Nick), and Naomi Staton. Also, two great granddaughters, Kylin and Keziah Postlethwaite, as well as nieces and nephews, extended family and many dear friends. Joseph is preceded in death by his four siblings, Olive, Ruth, Bud and Audrey and most recently his niece, Denise Goins.
A celebration of life for family and close friends will be held on March 5, 2023, and a service at MCAS Miramar will take place on March 6, 2023.
