KASEY JANELLE McCARTHY
May 22, 1965 ~ April 4, 2021
Kasey left us on Easter Sunday. Her life’s motto was “Enjoy the ride” and that is how she lived her life. She had friends all around the world and cherished each one of them. She prided herself in keeping in close touch with them and visiting them as often as she could. Her anchor was her close-knit family and always had time to celebrate with games she created. She was our shining star.
Kasey was born in San Diego at the US Naval Balboa Hospital. She attended schools in La Mesa and was a high school graduate of San Dieguito High School. She attended San Francisco State University and was a graduate of San Diego State University where she received her Teaching Credentials. Following this she moved to Osaka, Japan. While living and working there she embraced foreign cultures and chose a career assisting foreign students while they were studying in the USA.
She loved her city and was a champion of the Padres, Chargers and the SDSU Aztecs. Kasey had a reputation of knowing what was going on everywhere around her city and was the “go to” person when people had questions about any activities or dining venues. Kasey spent her life living near the beach and always had sand between her toes.
Kasey worked as the International Student Advisor at GIA in Carlsbad, CA. She belonged to NAFSA and PIER. They are organizations of professional international educators. She attended and spoke at their conferences held around the country. While doing so, she made lifetime friends. When she joined an organization, she gave it 100% and was highly respected for her knowledge.
Kasey is survived by her parents Jim and Helen McCarthy, her brother Michael and sister-in-law Teresa, her niece Molly and nephew John, her beloved aunt Janice Marshall and numerous cousins who loved her dearly and will miss her brightness and love for living. She certainly “Enjoyed her Ride”. Kasey was a lovely person, and her loss has left a huge emptiness in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She had a spiritual soul and the heart of a Tiger.
If you wish, you may contribute in her name, by contacting the Aqua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation. She was a lifelong participant in preserving our precious lagoons.
