Keith Eugene Cathey
Keith Eugene Cathey was born Aug. 5, 1937, in Wichita, Kansas. He passed away on May 6, 2023, at 85 years old in San Marcos, California. Keith grew up in and attended Southgate schools. He graduated from Southgate High School. His parents were Carl Henderson Cathey and Dorothy Mae Stewart Cathey. Keith worked in outside sales for 33 years at Filter Supply Company before retiring to San Marcos.
Keith entered the California National Guard in 1956, earning the rank of Sergeant E-5 before leaving. Keith’s favorite hobbies and sports were camping, panning for gold, bowling, golfing, and fishing. His favorite sports teams were the Arkansas Razorbacks football team, the UCLA Bruins, and the LA Rams. His favorite entertainment sport was the slots at Valley View Casino.
Keith is survived by his wife, Inez Williams Cathey, his first wife and mother of his children, Jan, his daughter, Danette Balco, his son, Donald Cathey, 6 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, 3 great-granddaughters, and 4 great-grandsons. He is also survived by his 2 stepsons Michael and Jonathan Williams, his brother and sister-in-law Dan and Janet Cathey, his brother and sister-in-law Brooks and Stephanie Cavanaugh, his brother and sister-in-law Shawn and Cathy Cavanaugh, his sister-in-law Cathy Dean, his brother and sister-in-law Ken and Susan Corona, many nieces and nephews, and lots of friends he met along life’s journey.
Keith is known to have had a big and tender heart. He liked any person who believed in the word of God. He was loving and generous to those who were in need. Keith always had a special love and place in his heart for small children. Sometimes one could say that he was an overgrown child himself.
There are six white roses on empty chairs to represent the loved ones who have passed before us. They are not forgotten. Their spirits and love are still with us every day. They are Keith’s parents, Carl and Dorothy Cathey, his older brother, Robert, his older sister, Beverly, his oldest son, David, and his second wife, Carolyn.
