Lawrence M. Barry (68), passed away unexpectedly on April 14, 2023, in Oceanside, California. Born on March 12, 1955, in Kearny, NJ, Larry was a man of many talents and passions. He earned degrees in Marketing and Electrical Engineering from Fordham University and Southern Illinois University and served his country as a marathon runner and Air Traffic Controller in the Marines.
Larry's entrepreneurial spirit led him to found Barry Industries, where he designed custom outdoor covers. However, Larry's true passion was advocating for causes he believed in. He fought tirelessly for his children to receive an excellent education in Oceanside by serving on both Oceanside School District and MiraCosta College Bond Oversight committees. He was an active member of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association and the NAACP, and he regularly attended Oceanside City Council and Board of Education meetings to fight for his beliefs.
Larry's impact on his community and beyond will be felt for years to come. He lived his faith by helping those in need and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who asked. Above all, Larry was a devoted husband and father who loved his family and friends with everything he had.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife Lori, his two children Briana Schaeffer and Taylor Holguin, their spouses Kerry and Rudy, and his grandson Ethan. He is also survived by his sister Linda Wetterauw, her husband Gary, and their children, Allison and Caroline, and his brother Brendan and his son Jake.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on May 20th at 11 am (Pacific) at New Song Community Church, 3985 Mission Ave, Oceanside, Ca 92058. The service will be open to all who wish to pay their respects to a remarkable man who left us far too soon.
Larry felt most at peace walking his dogs along various trails in San Diego. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Larry’s name to the San Diego County Parks Society at www.sdcps.org/donations. Larry's legacy of service and love will never be forgotten, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
