Lloyd Dean “The Wheeler Dealer” Reed, son of Charles and Lily (Heinkel) Reed, was born on December 24th, 1932 on the family farm in Marshall Illinois during the grip of the Great Depression. As a child Lloyd earned a nickel each Sunday building a fire for the worshipers at the church across the road before Sunday services, he served his country and was a successful businessman. Lloyd passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 11, 2020 at the family home in Lake San Marcos, California.
In 1946, at the age of 14, Lloyd moved to California. He attended Hoover High School, and thereafter he enlisted in the Air Force and served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1953 and went on to graduate from San Diego City College. He continued to serve his country in the Department of Defense from 1958 to 1988 spending time in both San Diego and Honolulu before retiring after thirty (30) years of service.
After “retirement” Lloyd the entrepreneur began the next chapter of his life selling bicycles across the country, and the world, under the moniker “The Wheeler Dealer”. For over thirty-two (32) years he channeled his passion for business, with an indefatigable love of work, to build a successful and prosperous enterprise. He was active in his business up to the moment of his passing.
Lloyd is survived by his wife and best friend Sandra Lee (Duran) Reed, his brothers Floyd and Charles Nick, his children Martin Dean, Randal Eugene, Nancy Ann Kerner, Michael John and Steven Lee, as well as his 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, as well as his many friends and always faithful canine companion Ms. Lucy.
