Margaret E "Betty" Ferguson

October 22, 1929 - December 14, 2022

    Betty a 70 year plus San Marcos resident, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2022.  After a stint in the Marine Corps, Betty dedicated her life to civil service, starting with becoming the first City Clerk for the City of San Marcos. She sat on many committees and boards, such as the San Marcos School Board, San Marcos Fire Protection District, and the Vallecitos Water Board, to name a few. She was also a San Diego County Planning Commissioner for many years. Over the years, she had received a large assortment of plaques, proclamations, and mementos for all her hard work.

    Betty owned a successful Reality/ Broker business and later on began doing Planning and Land Use Consultant work for clients. She was an avid Tennis and Golf player and enjoyed playing a few times a week. She will be missed by many. Betty is survived by her son John Ferguson (Julia) and daughter Kathy Conwell (Ferguson), grandsons E.J. (Nicky) and Bobby (Gretchen) Conwell and six grandchildren, her step grandchildren Mike Jr. Bowser (Jenny), Cinnamon Bowser Coons (Kevin) and Scotty Bowser as well as 6 step great-grandchildren. Betty was predeceased by her husband Ed, and daughter Peggy Ferguson Bowser and Phyllis Ferguson.

    A funeral mass is scheduled at 10:00 on December 28, 2022, at St Marks Catholic church. Burial to follow at San Marcos Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to your favorite charity.
