Mario Quidato Guigayoma, 73, of Vista, Calif., passed away on December 5, 2023. Mario was born in Davao City, Philippines on April 5, 1950. He is the child of Pedro and Esther Guigayoma (both deceased) and grew up in the Philippines. He earned a degree in Aeronautical Engineering in the Philippines before migrating to the US on April 1980 and immediately joined US Navy on October 1980. He later returned to the Philippines in 1982 to marry Rowena Balazo. He was stationed at several US naval bases and toured the WestPac region with several aircraft carriers. After continued 20 years of service to USN, he retired on October 2000. After his retirement, he continued his passion of working with aircrafts as a civilian civil service employee at North Island Naval Station and fully retired in 2015.
Mario was an avid music fan of The Beatles, and he enjoyed listening to his advanced entertainment system daily. He was also a great cook using recipes from YouTube. He also enjoyed traveling the world with his wife and friends, Rene and Mer, Gerry and Beth, and Rodel and Noemi.
Mario is survived by his wife of 41 years, Rowena Guigayoma; his son John Guigayoma of Providence, Rhode Island, his daughter Leia Guigayoma of San Francisco; his siblings Trifina, Excelsa, Marlyn, Lino, Johnny; and his nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Brenda Balazo, who has been a major part of the family for more than 35 years.
Viewing will be at Allen Brothers Mortuary at 1315 South Santa Fe, Vista, CA 92083 on Sunday, December 17, 2023, from 1 pm to 5 pm and Monday, December 18, 2023, from 5 pm to 8 pm. Services with Funeral Mass will be on December 19, 2023, 11 am at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 1147 Discovery St., San Marcos, CA 92078, and interment will be at 2:15 pm at Miramar National Cemetery at 5795 Nobel Drive San Diego, CA 92122.
