Nadine Kaina, 88 died February 23, 2025, just three days before her 89th birthday in Minneapolis, MN. Nadine was a resident of Vista, CA for over 30 years--Her plans were to remain in Vista with Janet Proctor by her side in sunny California. Janet could no longer be a part of Nadine’s plans to live in Vista, so Nadine moved to Decatur Alabama to be close to her son Mark. Then Nadine began to struggle more, and she moved to Minnesota to be close to her son Jeff where she died.
Nadine was a “Joiner” she joined the Navy and married a Navy man David Proctor. After Navy retirement they moved to Nebraska where she joined many groups. She joined the Nebraska Women for Highway Safety and helped lobby for safety seats for children in vehicles. She became a den mother for the boy scouts, and as a member of the Methodist church, she was in choir and taught Sunday school. She was a member of The American Legion until 2024.
After a divorce, Nadine put herself through College at the Univ. Of Nebraska-Kearney. Earning a BS in Public Relations. She moved to California in 1987 to be with family. Ten years later she met Bill Kaina and married him but after 5 years of marriage, Bill who was a Marine Vet, fell ill and died at the age of 55. She decided to stay in California and oversaw Project CARE and Interfaith Community Services in surrounding areas of Vista.
She loved music and played drums into her eighties for New Horizons band, and she sang in church choir until 2022! She loved serving Jesus at church and believed that being a volunteer was the best way to love. Her motto was “A reason that volunteers aren’t paid is not because they are worthless, but that they are priceless!”--Vince Lombardi Green Bay Packer Coach
