Nicolas (Nick) was born on January 3, 1948 in Morelia, Mexico to Rafael Rodriguez and Maria Medina. He passed away peacefully at his home in Escondido, California on February 23, 2020.
He is survived by his son, Nicolas Gabriel Rodriguez, his sisters and brothers, Antonio Rodriguez, Berta Lemus, Frank Rodriguez, Guadalupe Echoff, Margarita Macias, Marijeña Garcia, and Martha McCallister, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was raised in Wilmington California, attended Phineas Banning High School where he was on the cross-country team. After graduating from high school, he entered the U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam as Artillery Personnel and was honorably discharged with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Bronze Star.
After the service Nick worked for GTE/Verizon for 31 years as a Technician, and retired in 2008.
Nick had a great sense of humor, loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. He enjoyed many sports, including scuba diving, snow skiing, and water skiing. And was a fan of soccer and football (LA Rams).
But his main passion was music. He started playing drums while in high school, and continued on to other percussion instruments and had played with The Royal Counts and Mezcal, popular local bands. He loved playing, listening to all types (oldies, rancheras, Latin, jazz), and dancing, especially salsa!
Nicolas was a loving father, brother, uncle, and friend, and will be missed by all.
