Norman Leroy Jakeway
Norman Leroy Jakeway, born July 4, 1928 in Ann Arbor, MI, went to his heavenly reward and joined his wonderful wife, Vondell Ann Gibson, (his wife of 64 earthly years) on July 21, 2022, just after his 94th Birthday. He was the eldest of 8 children of George Dewey Jakeway and Beatrice Burnette Parker. He is survived by 4 younger siblings, Judith, Spencer, Linda and Leslie.
Married at the age of 20 to Vondell, he pursued a career in Michigan with the Gerber Baby Food Corporation and transferred to California in 1961. He soon decided to change career paths and joined the United States Post Office where he served for over 30 years in Altadena, CA and ended in Vista, CA until retirement. After retirement, he enjoyed working at Antiques on Main Street, in Vista. He and his wife have also been immortalized on the famous Vista Mural standing in front of their beautiful former home on Beaumont Dr, “Chateau Jacquet”. They later moved to a retirement community in Vista and were both able to pass on at home with their daughters by their sides.
Norman and Vondell are survived by their 2 daughters, Lani Sue and Shawne Lorene who share the same Birthday, 4 years apart; and their Son-in-law, David Lynn. They joined one Grandson, David Daniel, in heaven and are survived by 9 more grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Norman was an accomplished singer, pianist and Minister of Music from a young age of 19. Besides music, his hobbies included gardening, interior design and remodeling, furniture restoration, stained glass window creations and ice dancing with his wife, Vondell. Both were gifted with many artistic talents which have been genetically passed down through their 1st, 2nd and 3rd generations of descendants!
Norman had been desiring to join his wife in heaven for 9 years and his wish has been realized. Even though missed by many, the memories will last an eternity for his loved ones left behind.
