Patricia Roberts Obituary

Our beloved Patricia Marie Roberts, 82, of Carlsbad, California, passed away on May 24, 2025, surrounded by her family.  Patricia was born on November 21, 1942, in Washington DC and grew up in Summit, New Jersey (NJ).  After graduating from Bayley-Ellard High School in Madison, NJ, in 1960, she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Education from William Paterson University.
Following graduation, she worked as an elementary school teacher for 4 years before branching out into a series of charitable and philanthropic efforts.  While residing in Rumson NJ, she advanced opportunities for local female artisans as the president and board member of The Women’s Exchange in Little Silver. She advocated for access to quality health care while serving as a volunteer for the Visiting Nurse Association of New Jersey and the Mental Health Association of Monmouth County NJ; and she played a key role in the start-up of the Parker Family Health Center in Red Bank, NJ, a free clinic for individuals without health coverage. Her love of books led her to advocacy and fund-raising work as a board member of the Monmouth University Library. Additionally, she worked tirelessly alongside her husband John, past president of the Specialty Food Association.
After moving to California, she served as the treasurer and board member of the local chapter of PEO International, a philanthropic organization dedicated to ensuring educational opportunities for women and served as president and as a board member of the Friends of the Carlsbad Library, a nonprofit which raises funds to support the Carlsbad City Library.
As a resident of the La Costa Glen Community, she contributed her talent and energy by serving as chair of the Food and Beverage Committee, and volunteering on the Creative Activities Committee and the La Costa Glen Library Committee.  She also worked in the woodshop to handcraft holiday toys for children in need in the surrounding community.  Additionally, she enjoyed line dancing, tap dancing, and performing in the annual resident show.
Patricia is survived by John Roberts, her husband of 64 years, her sister Lorraine (Joseph Calvarese) and brother Ronald (Rose Masi), sister-in-law Erna, and her sons John and Richard. She was predeceased by her son Kenneth.  She is also fondly remembered by her daughters-in-law Leslie, Sylvia, and Deborah, granddaughters Christiana (Patrick Rooney), Sophia, Isabella, grandson Jonathan, great grandson Liam, and her many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Her family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues continue to share treasured memories and stories of her kindness, generosity, encouragement, and willingness to help. She always brought her own unique style and grace to any situation and will be remembered for her dedication to helping others, as well as her talents in music, theater, dance, literature, and her love of travel.
Her family celebrated Patricia’s life at a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to a charity you support.
