Dr. Patrick Corcoran Ebert saved lives, made lives, and lived a great one. He was the proud husband and fierce advocate of Pia Harris-Ebert, father of 10 children & bonus-children, and Bumpa to 28+ grandchildren.
Dad taught his family to respect others with humility, speak up, question, be passionate about tiny things, and laugh. His answer to any struggle was to love. Dad showed others how to truly “enjoy the process”, lived by the motto “illegitimi non carborundum” (don’t let the bastards get you down), prioritized family, and eternally picked himself up because that’s what Eberts do.
Bumpa’s grandchildren receive the same encouragement, love, and tenderness via bedtime “ice water and secrets” that he shared with his own children. He was sweet, hilarious, and told the best stories—often embellished and conducted with grand gestures. Creative, meticulous, and generous, he hosted epic Easter egg hunts.
Pat was a great companion, wise and compassionate. Pia’s dearest sweetheart is loved and loved others more than tongue can tell, farther than the moon and back. He was lovely, treated everyone with respect and care, and opened eyes to new ways of seeing the world. Anyone who knew him, loved him—most in awe of the depth and breadth of his love for Pia.
And food.
Doc loved food (ICE CREAM), compelled to share it directly from his spoon with loved ones and strangers alike. Unashamed and passionate, trusting and loving, spiritual and devoted, he gave hugs, not handshakes. Pat was patriotic, loved the outdoors, all animals, music, and laughing.
The middle child of Neil and Marion from Norwalk, Ohio, he proudly graduated from The Ohio State University and was commissioned as a dentist in the U.S. Navy in 1965. He completed 10 tours including Vietnam, Japan, DC, and California, before he retired as a Commander after a 21-year career and entered private practice in San Marcos for a dozen years. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mark’s Catholic Church on Fri, 7/28 followed by a celebration of life on Sat, 7/29.
