Paul Emil Zanzucchi, beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather/papa, friend, and neighbor, passed away on August 4,2021 following a battle with Alzheimer’s dementia. He passed peacefully in the care of Elizabeth hospice and his family, at his home.
Dr. Zanzucchi had a 35 year career as a physicist, having graduated from the University of Virginia, at Charlottesville in 1976 with a Doctorate in physics. He did his final post doctoral project in the physics department at Case Western University in Cleveland Ohio, and in collaboration with the university hospitals. He was a member of a team which developed and tested a device called the SQUID, which passively measured the amount of iron stored in the human liver. Dr. Zanzucchi subsequently did research & development work at Gould in Cleveland, OH., AT&T, Bell Labs In Whippany, NJ., and Boeing in Everett, WA. among others.
While in Cleveland, Paul met his future bride, Judith Kozel, at a disco in November 1979. They were wed at the Catholic Center on campus at Case Western Reserve University on July 5th, 1980. Paul and Judith were blessed with three children: Leah Ann (Sep '83), Eric John( Christmas Day '84), and Lara Marie (Feb '86). All are college graduates and doing well. On March 31, 2012, Leah married Israel Marroquin, and on November 17, 2013, the good Lord and Leah and Israel blessed Judith and Paul with Elizabeth, their beautiful Granddaughter.
Dr. Zanzucchi‘s final career position was as a Research Engineer/ Civilian Employee with the United States Navy, in the state of Indiana. He retired at the age of 69 in late 2016. He was formally diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Dementia in early 2017. Paul celebrated 41 years of marriage with Judith on July 5, 2021, and also had an early 74th birthday celebration with the family.
