R. William Dunne

R. William (Bill) Dunne, Major, U.S. Army, Ret., passed away August 31, 2022

in Vista, CA, at the age of 85.

Born in Albany, NY, on August 17,1937, Bill was the son of the late Dr.

James J. and Helen Dunne. He graduated from Spring Hill College in Mobile,

AL. While attending Spring Hill, Bill completed the Army ROTC program there

and met and married Anne Murden, with whom he had three sons.

After graduation, Bill was commissioned in the U.S. Army. He was proud to be

a career military officer, completing multiple tours of duty in Vietnam,

followed by years of service in military intelligence divisions with

postings at Arlington Hall and the Pentagon. He was twice awarded the Bronze

Star Medal.

Bill is preceded in death by his loving parents, and sisters Maureen and

Cathy. He is survived by his longtime companion Nancy Ferguson, sons R.

William Dunne II, James Dunne, Matthew and Sheryl Dunne, siblings Ellen and

Jerry Bresnahan, Thomas Dunne and Winanne Kreger, and Kevin and Lynne Dunne,

and grandchildren Rebecca, Rory, Rhianna, and Devin Dunne.

Bill was a huge Neil Diamond fan, a voracious reader (especially of history),

and a car and motorcycle enthusiast.

His love, wit, candor and advice will be dearly missed.

Funeral/Burial services will be September 27, 2022, 1115 hours, at Miramar

National Cemetery in San Diego, CA.
