Raymond Joseph Tutera, 74, passed away on October 26, 2025, in Vista, California. Born on February 4, 1951, in New York, Ray lived a life defined by service, humor, and unwavering devotion to those around him.
A proud Marine who served from 1969 to 1973 during the Vietnam War, Ray embodied the values of courage and commitment throughout his life. His dedication to his country was matched by his deep commitment to his community. As a Vista Sheriff Reserve Deputy, Ray was honored as Reserve Deputy of the Year multiple times and received the Lifesaving Award from the City of Vista—testaments to his selflessness and bravery.
Ray’s acts of service extended far beyond his professional roles. Whether responding to a call for help or offering a shoulder to lean on, he was always there without hesitation. Those who knew him best remember not only his generosity but also his quick wit and kind heart. He had a gift for making people laugh with his wisecracks and an even greater gift for making them feel valued and supported.
Ray was a loving husband to Barbara and a devoted father to Vienna. He shared a close bond with his brother John and was cherished by his nieces Megan, Kimberly, and Rachel. He held dear memories of his late parents Margaret and Felice and mourned the loss of his nephew Eric.
To those who called him friend, uncle, cousin—or simply Ray—he brought laughter, loyalty, and warmth. Though he is no longer with us in body, Ray’s spirit endures in the stories we share and the memories we hold close.
