Refugio Jesse Lomeli

Refugio “Jesse” Lomeli, 83, of San Marcos, CA, left us peacefully on January 14, 2025 surrounded by friends and family. A beloved husband , father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and Uncle. “Jesse” will always be remembered for his kindness and willingness to help those in his family and close friends.

Born on July 23, 1941, in Aguascalientes, Mexico.  He emigrated to the United States when he was 13 years old.  Jesse grew up the second oldest son of Jesus and Guadalupe Lomeli and is brother to four brothers: Eddie, Jesse (Chuy), Francisco, and Payo and two sisters: Esperanza and Marta.  

A proud educator, Jesse devoted his career to Mira Costa College, where he worked as a Counselor/Professor for over 30 years.  Jesse also started the first soccer class and team at Mira Costa College and coached for several years. He Loved watching all his children and grandchildren play in their sports and tried to never miss a game.  

On August 24th, 1968, Jesse married Barbara McMinn. The marriage lasted over 50 years and yielded three children, eight grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; another great grandchild is expected in March.

Jesse is survived by his daughters, Lorena Hixon and Maya Lomeli as well as his son Marc Lomeli, as well as his grandchildren Tristan Hixon, Joshua Hixon, Karina Hixon, Colin Goss, Clarissa Goss, Carlton Goss, Dominic and Anthony Lomeli and great grandchild Lucy Hixon.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Eddie.

A rosary and funeral mass will be held at St. Marks Catholic Church on January 23rd beginning at 12:30 pm. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lomeli-Miller Scholarship.
