Bob, Rollie, Dad, Papa, Gramps, Grampa, G-Pop, passed away quietly on 4/17 at the age of 88. He was born in Minnesota and proud of his early years on the family farm and his service as an altar boy in the local Catholic Church. He left the farm to join the Marines and served proudly for 10 years. Once he left the USMC he settled in Vista, CA where he had a working career that included gas station ownership, construction work and owned/operated his own business, Window Awnings Unlimited for 20 years.
In his retirement he developed a fondness for constructing wooden models which he took great pride in showing off to anyone who stopped by his garage workshop. In addition to his wooden models he enjoyed his Coors Light, country-western and polka music, occasional trips to the casinos and family get togethers.
Bob was also active in the Vista Elks for over 60 years, the local American Legion & VFW Post.
He loved his large family and enjoyed visits with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his 5 children, Scott (Linda)Holthaus, Shelly (David)Erickson; Stuart (Mary) Holthaus; Sheila (Dennis) Matteau and Sandy (Tome) Newman, 21 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren (with 2 on the way) and 1 great great grandchild. Bob leaves quite a legacy behind. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Janet and his parents Anton and Katherine along with his 10 siblings.
A funeral service will be held at Allen Brothers Mortuary in Vista on May 28 at 12:00 with a reception to follow at the Vista Del Mar clubhouse in the community where he lived.
