Retired USMC Major Samuel Moore, Jr. was a man loved immensely by so many people. Samuel joined the USMC at the young age of 20. While on an active-duty tour, he met Rosalina (Saling) Guiang in the Philippines. They were married in 1958, and their family grew over time as they welcomed Laura, Lita, Nicole, twins Andre and Myron, and the youngest, Mary. Sam and Saling were together until her passing in 2017.
Samuel is remembered for being a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was kindhearted, generous, strong willed and determined. These characteristics enabled him to rise to the rank of Major in the USMC with no college degree. Samuel, aka Rocky, loved athletics and had a boxing career in the Marines where he was known for losing only 1 out of 30 boxing matches. He became an avid golfer, where he met and remained friends with many people on the course. Samuel was active in all of his children's lives - coaching some of their sports teams and cheering them on in whatever school events they had. He always told his children, "there is nothing that you can't do". Later in life, he became active in the lives of his grandchildren. He was blessed to be there for all of their high school events and graduations, college graduations, and weddings.
Samuel was a God-fearing man, and he instilled the importance of faith and "family first" in his children. He encouraged his grandchildren and great grandchild to follow these same principles. His legacy will be kept in the hearts of all family and friends who loved him.
