Shirley Ridley Obituary

Shirley Ann Ridley passed away on May 30th, 2020, after a long battle with various illnesses. She was 84 years old.

Shirley battled fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, numerous infections, and a difficult to heal pressure wound. She also developed a hiatal hernia that created difficulty swallowing. This was so unfortunate because she loved her sweets! She was unable to walk for the last six years due to extensive spinal and joint abnormalities. Not being able to walk made it difficult for her to take care of her two bichon frieze dogs, Joey and Molly. They were her world. She loved them so much and was so heartbroken when they passed away. Through all of that she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined to live. There was no quit in Shirley.

Shirley was born in Manchester, Tennessee in 1935, to Charles Brown Ridley Sr. and Betty Vandygriff. After raising her two children Randall and Tonya, in Clarendon Hills, Il, Shirley moved to Southern California in the mid 70’s. Shirley went back to school and received her PhD in Psychology. She was a great listener for her friends and could be counted on to offer her advice on many different topics. She spent the last 42 years in her current San Marcos, CA home.

Shirley is survived by her son Randall Phillips, her grandsons Gavin and Vincent Justice and her great grandson Mason Justice. There will be a visitation service at Allen Brothers Mortuary on Monday at 1:30 pm. Her ashes will be scattered at sea at a future date.
