Stephen M. McMahon

Stephen M. McMahon, current resident of Oceanside, CA, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2023, in San Marcos, CA at the age of 90.  Stephen was born on September 21, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois to parents Sylvester McMahon and Mary Powers. On May 10, 1958, he married Joan Smalley in Chicago, Illinois and they were married for 65 years. He was a Certified X-Ray Technician and, during his 26 years of service as a Hospital Corpsman in the US Navy, he achieved the rank of Senior Chief before retiring in 1983. He was in the service during the Korean and Vietnam wars, and during his time in the navy Stephen earned many service and good conduct medals. His pastimes included reading, watching old western movies, sightseeing and spending time with family.  He is survived by his wife Joan McMahon, son Stephen (Cindie) McMahon, daughter Kathryn (Russell) Gruber, son John (Candice) McMahon, sister Mary (Art) Chatfield, grandchildren Nichole, Brent, Jozee, and Shannon, and great-grandchildren Taylor, Ryann and Macarthur.  He will be remembered as a loving father, husband, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather who always had a smile when he greeted family and friends.

Services will be held October 20, 2023, at 10:00am at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 1147 Discovery Street, San Marcos, CA, followed by full Military Honors Interment at Miramar National Cemetery at 2:00pm.
