Sylvia Carol Tatman
April 26, 1938 – June 11, 2020
Sylvia Tatman died peacefully at her assisted living home where she was surrounded by family and caregivers. She battled Parkinson’s disease for several years. Sylvia was born in Minnesota and graduated from New Ulm High School in 1956. On March 23, 1958, she married Gary Tatman of Madelia, Minnesota and they had four children: Thomas, Linda, Kristen, and Laura. Thomas passed away in 1993 and Gary passed away in 1999. Sylvia has three grandchildren: Emily, Sean, and Malia.
Gary and Sylvia moved to Escondido, California in 1966. Sylvia graduated from California State University, San Diego with a Bachelor’s degree in nursing; and, she graduated from the University of San Diego with a Master’s degree in nursing. Sylvia was a Professor of Nursing at Palomar Junior College for over twenty years. After she retired, she was a hospice nurse, which she truly enjoyed.
Sylvia was an active member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Escondido and she was also a member of Christ the Vine in Temecula. Her Christian faith kept her strong through any difficult times. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends. Her hobbies included gardening, baking holiday cookies, singing in the church choir, and spending time with her grandchildren.
A witness placement service will be held on Monday, June 22, 2020 at the National Cemetery in Riverside. She will be laid to rest with her husband, Gary. Due to current restrictions, the service will be private, immediate family members only.
