Long time Vista resident, Wanda Lee Prosser died November 1, 2024.

Wanda was born August 31, 1930 in Fort Smith, Arkansas and moved to California with her mother and father, Hoy and Haskell Koontz, and sister, Patsy, in January of 1941.Wanda married Allen Jay Prosser, July 8, 1961 in Long Beach, CA. She is survived by her husband, Allen; sister, Patsy Baughman (Ken); two daughters, Donna Oreb of Sacramento, CA, Debra Madrie (Frank) of Decatur, TX, and one son, Eric Prosser of Phoenix, AZ; nine (9) grandchildren: Sherri, Casey, John, Frank, Kate, Joann, Roslyn, Trevor, and Ela; twelve (12) great-grandchildren: Brandon, Connie, Michael S., Ashlie, Trinity, Dalton, Melissa, Jordan, Phillip, Michael M., Camilla, and Evan; seven (7) great-great-grandchildren: Braden, Brock, Remington, Cameron, Tinley, Presley and Adley; and one (1) great-great-great-grandchild, Oakland. Wanda’s oldest daughter, Diane, predeceased her.

A long time supporter of public education Wanda served on the PTA and PTSA throughout her children’s lives. She served on and was Chairman of many District Committees. She was honored as a VUSD Supporter, with a plaque in the District office, and on the Honor V at Vista High School.

Wanda was an active member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Santa Margarita Chapter, where she served twice as regent of the chapter, 2000-2002 and 2012- 2014. At the state level Wanda served as State Vice-Chairman, Commemorative Events, Louisiana Purchase and Lewis and Clark Commemoration, 2002-2004; State Chairman, Commemorative Events, 2004-2006; State Chairman Women’s Issues, 2006-2008; Vice Chairman, State Regent’s Project, 2008-2010; State Chairman, State Regent’s History Book, 2012-2014; State Chairman Public Relations and Media, 2014-2016. Wanda served as Assistant Director, District XIV, California State Society DAR 2004-2006, and as Director, 2006-2008.

Wanda was also proud of her Union and Confederate lineage. She was a member of the Daughters of Union Veterans, Nancy Hanks Lincoln, Tent #5, through great-great grandfather, Alexander Koontz, a Private in Co. F 98th Regiment, Illinois Volunteers. She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Stonewall Jackson Chapter 476, through great grandfather, William Quincy Bailey, a Private in Co. G. 22nd Arkansas Infantry, and great grandfather, William Franklin Wright, Co. A 7th Reg. Kentucky Cavalry. Wanda joined the United States Daughters of 1812 through her great-great-great grandfather James Robinson, a private in Capt. Drury Atkins Co Napier’s 1st Regiment West Tennessee Militia in the Creek Indian Wars.

A private ceremony and internment at Miramar National Cemetery, San Diego, CA, will be held on November 14, 2024. A celebration of life is being planned for early 2025.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Santa Margarita Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, c/o Treasurer, are preferred.
