Wendy Anne Witt passed away peacefully at her Carlsbad home on November 29th, 2024, amongst family and with sun and fresh air on her face. She will be remembered by many as a kind and generous woman who was always quick to offer a friendly smile.
Wendy was born on May 28th, 1954, and grew up in Alhambra, California with her two older sisters, Linda and Susan. She learned to play piano at a young age and enjoyed playing Christmas music while her family sang along. As an adult, she moved north and raised her children in Santa Cruz, California while enjoying the Ocean, walks in nature (where she could surprisingly name just about every flower and tree along the way) and visiting the monarch butterflies at Natural Bridges. Wendy had a gentle way with all creatures, finding pleasure in the company of her many cats throughout the years. She always loved sewing and often created clothing for herself and family and particularly enjoyed making unique Halloween costumes. After her children were grown she took time to further explore her artistic talents and earned a degree in arts at Cabrillo college in Soquel. She left behind many inspiring watercolor paintings, creative writing pieces and other artwork. The craft she grew to have the most passion for later in life was quilting. In addition to making multiple beautiful quilts for all of her loved ones, she was always ready to offer a personalized quilt to welcome new babies into the world, whether it be for a close family member or a friend of a friend. Her loved ones will always have the warmth and comfort of those quilts to remember her by. She loved her family and was blessed with the opportunity to be a stay at home mother and later, a grammy nanny in San Diego County with her daughter and son-in-law. Those were by far her favorite occupations. However, her love of books also led her to enjoy several years working at a public library. Wendy (lovingly called “Mimi” by her grandchildren) shared this love of books and stories with her children and grandchildren, reading to them often and building curiosity and imagination that continues to inspire their lives.
She is survived by her son, Jason Whiteman and daughter, Shaleah Vidal; grandchildren, Jason Jr., Cameron, Jocelyn, Colin, Miyo and Charlotte; and her first great-grandchild, Tommy.
A private memorial ceremony will be held with close family. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Wendy’s memory by donating to one of the following:
