William George Pew

William (Bill) Pew, 93, died peacefully on November 10, 2021 at his home in Lake San Marcos, CA due to complications from pneumonia. Bill had lived a very full and happy life, dying with his family at his side. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Elaine Holzman Pew, 5 daughters & 2 sons; Kathleen Pew-Longmont, CO, Jeanne O’Brien (Paul Lessing)-Tacoma, WA, Margaret Pew (Todd Anderson)-Hugo, MN, Paula Konrady (Paul)-Kenmore, WA, Thomas Pew (Sue)-San Diego, CA, Robert Pew (Mary)-Escondido, CA, Lizbeth Rhoads-Palmer Lake, CO, along with 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, sister Pat Cutler-Dallas, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold & Esther Pew, siblings Geraldine Hodapp & Richard Pew, and son-in-law Dean Rhoads.

Bill was born in Le Mars, Iowa on June 30, 1928 where he received his elementary, high school and college educations. He worked in the family business, Pew’s Inc., until 1959, when he became a Real Estate Broker.  He started his own Real Estate Co. practicing in the area until 1976 when he moved his family to San Marcos, CA where he continued his business. He was active in the National Board of Realtors & civic organizations in both LeMars and San Marcos. 

Bill was a high school track star, holding the school 100-yard dash record for 60 years. He was an avid golfer-a Club champion in Le Mars, & winner of many local area tournaments.  As his eyesight deteriorated, he still hit balls almost daily until his death. Billiards was also on his list of skills. As a licensed pilot, he often took his family flying for Sunday entertainment.  Storytelling was high on his list of talents along with challenging friends and family in games of logic. 

Funeral services are November 17, 1:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s Catholic church, San Marcos, CA.  He will be laid to rest at his birthplace, Le Mars, IA.
